Greater Odenville Chamber of Commerce July 2006 Minutes
July 17, 2006
In Attendance: Gayle Brandt, John Joyner, Melba Knight, Larry Corbin, Ed Brasher, Paul Becker, Heather Harper, Shannon Reese, Margaret Isenhower, Jennifer Brady, Sandy Cross, Tom Dixon, Mark Brandt, Judge Bill Hereford
The meeting was called to order by John Joyner at 7:00 pm at The Barnyard Restaurant.
Treasurer’s Report: Gayle Brandt gave the Treasurer’s Report and reported Beginning Balance of $1223.38, with deposits of $40.00 and an outlay of $10.00. This gives a new ending balance of $1253.38. The motion was made by Melba Knight to accept Treasurer’s Report and Seconded by Paul Becker. Report Accepted. Minutes: Everyone had a copy of the June 2006 minutes. Motion made by Melba Knight to accept Minutes and Seconded by Paul Becker. Minutes Accepted.
Membership Committee: A report was issued to all present showing delinquent dues for 2006. The Membership Committee will contact these businesses to see if they are interested in continuing the work of the Chamber. Newly formatted Membership applications were passed out and will soon be available on the Web Site.
Grant: No new information was available on the Grant that the Chamber is pursuing for use in creating a new park for the Greater Odenville Area.
Fundraising: BBQ contest – The BBQ will now be part of the Greater Odenville Ol’ Time County Fair. The Fair is to be held on the first Saturday in October to coincide with the “411 Yard Sale” as previously decided. There is still some research and coordination to be done on the contest. Additional activities were suggested and discussed. These included: A Pie Baking Contest, Pumpkin Growing Contest, and Eating Contest, a Sock Hop. Area organizations, churches, and vendors will be contacted. Arrangements for the booking of the Elementary/High School parking area are ongoing. All members were encouraged to contact anyone they could think of to come and join in the activities Future: Discussion was held that progress was being made in the community and that the Chamber would pursue any and all ways of making the Greater Odenville Area a place that new residents and business would be proud to call home and to keep it a place “Where the Future is Promising”.
Judge Bill Hereford: Judge Bill Hereford spoke to the Chamber. He gave a very interesting and informative talk on how the area Judiciary System is set up and who presently occupies these benches. He also spoke on who the Alabama Judiciary System has evolved over the years to its present set-up. Judge Hereford then fielded questions from the Chamber. Judge Hereford was thanked by the Chamber President for spending his time talking with the Chamber.
