Greater Odenville Chamber of Commerce February 2007 Minutes February 21, 2007 In Attendance: Melba Knight, Margaret Isenhower, Mark Brandt, , Jeff & Kay Armstrong, Sandy Cross, John Joyner, Angela Irwin, Heather Harper, Shannon Reece, Angie Baswell, Bill Thornton, Chad Hutchens, Paul Becker, Mark Weaver, Trudy Phillips and Jeff Wilson.
The meeting was called to order by Heather Harper at 12:00 pm at the Dance Works Studio in Odenville.
Guest Speakers: Jennifer Brady, Leeds News Paula Mullinax, St. Clair News-Aegis William Thornton, Birmingham News
A panel discussion was held with the above guest speakers to share thoughts and topics concerning working with the media. Tips and ideas were given describing ways to collect unique stories with personalized issues. Answers and opinions were given to questions asked by Mark Brandt, Shannon Reese and Heather Harper.
Business Spotlight: Business’ recognized this month were as follows: Armstrong Partners Real Estate (Represented by Shannon Reese) Jeff Armstrong Construction (Represented by Jeff and Kay Armstrong)
Treasurer’s Report: Melba Knight gave the Treasurer’s Report and reported Beginning Balance of $1,029.23 with deposits of $160.00 and a $10.00 miscellaneous fee reversal for the previous month’s bank service charge. This gives a new ending balance of $1,119.23. The motion was made by Mark Brandt to accept the Treasurer’s Report and Seconded by Shannon Reece. Report Accepted.
Minutes: Everyone received a copy of the January 2007 minutes. A motion was made by Mark Brandt to accept Minutes and Seconded by Jeff Armstrong. Minutes Accepted. Web Site: Jeff Wilson from the Clay Area Chamber of Commerce shared how their Chamber and Web Site have grown and developed.
Meeting Locations: Heather Harper shared thoughts about touring the new Odenville School. A suggestion was made to change some of the meeting times from around 4-5 in the afternoon in order to allow more to attend who are currently unable to leave their business obligations during the day. Suggested, “Coffee with the Mayor” meetings to be discussed and planned.
Government Relations: Comments were made to reconstitute government relations, specifically the City Council Meetings. A suggestion was made to form a group of volunteers to participate in gathering more information from these. Mark Brandt stressed that more attention needed to be focused toward the Margaret area.
Next Meeting: President Heather Harper announced that the next meeting will be held on Wednesday the 21st of March at 12:00. The location is to be announced. Members will be emailed upon confirmation.
