Greater Odenville Chamber of Commerce August 2006 Minutes
August 21, 2006
In Attendance: Gayle Brandt, John Joyner, Melba Knight, Paul Becker, Heather Harper, Shannon Reese, Margaret Isenhower, Sandy Cross, Mark Brandt, Debbie Hitchcock, Curt Eddy, Gabriel Cifuentes, Adam Pardue, Michelle Pardue, Judge Jim Hill
The meeting was called to order by John Joyner at 7:00 pm at Sal’s Italian Restaurant. Prayer was offered by Mark Brandt.
Treasurer’s Report: Gayle Brandt gave the Treasurer’s Report and reported Beginning Balance of $1253.38, with deposits of $183.32 and an outlay of $10.00. This gives a new ending balance of $1426.70. The motion was made by Margaret Isenhower to accept the Treasurer’s Report and Seconded by Debbie Hitchcock. Report Accepted. Membership: New membership by Odenville Drugs, The Leeds News and Sandy Cross was applied for. Motion was made by Mark Brandt to accept all as Members. Motion was seconded by Paul Becker. Motion carried.
Minutes: Everyone had a copy of the July 2006 minutes. Motion made by Debbie Hitchcock to accept Minutes and Seconded by Gabriel Cifuentes. Minutes Accepted.
Grant: No new information was available on the Grant that the Chamber is pursuing for use in creating a new park for the Greater Odenville Area.
Media: Discussion was held on how to better cover Chamber activities in the various media. An article was published in the Birmingham News passed around by Heather Harper. More of this type of publicity is need. Moreover, the Chamber needs to have a handout showing new prospects to the Chamber what that we have to offer, and our accomplishments. Chief Adam Pardue: Chief Pardue gave a presentation about the Police Auxiliary’s “Fund Day in the Park” scheduled for September 23, 2006. Chief Pardue has already had poster made and the Chamber Members were asked to display the posters at their businesses. Discussion was held on possibly combing the Chamber’s Fair would be mutually beneficial in future years. An offer was made by Colonial Bank and Oakridge Outdoors to print flyers. The Chamber offered to help man booths if needed.
Judge Jim Hill: Judge Bill Hereford spoke to the Chamber. Judge Hill explained to the Chamber the background and make-up of the area Judicial System. Judge Hill explained that St. Clair County would experience some “growing pains” with the influx of new citizens until the infrastructure caught up with the increased population. Judge Hill explained that new ways to rehabilitate non violent offenders was in the works, including the future sentencing programs being studied. A question and answer period was held between Members and Judge Hill. President John Joyner thanked Judge Hill for his time. Ole Time County Fair: Gayle Brandt presented the flyers, entry forms, and event schedule for the Ole Time County Fair. One edit of the Pie Contest was needed. Discussion was held on how maximum participation was needed for a successful outing. All will need to be finalized as soon as possible.
Grants: Discussion was held on progress being made in processing the paperwork to get a grant for an area park.
Future: Discussion was held on how to enhance the area. Getting a Medical Doctor or medical facility in the Odenville Area was an example given by Curt Eddy.
